I’m looking to rewire my home with data cables. Debating on whether to use cat7 Ethernet or optical fibre. Optical seems more future proof, but possibly overkill for a home, and ethernet is more compatible with switches/computers/games consoles. It’s not fair to ask you to predict the future, but any advise you could give would be great!

It took 20 years for people to move onto 2.5GbE and people still are considering 10GbE. It might take another 10 years for everyone to move to 10GbE. Optics might take 20 years or more.
