Desperate for help on selecting 4 hard drives to go into new Synology DS 423+ NAS. The Ironwolf Pro ST12000NE0008 seems to be the best option? Noise is a factor but obviously not as important as reliability. WD Red plus WD120EFBX seems like a valid alternative? Many thanks in advance for your help.

Both the Seagate IronWolf Pro ST12000NE0008 and WD Red Plus WD120EFBX are reliable options for NAS hard drives. The IronWolf Pro has a higher rotational speed and larger cache, which can result in faster performance for tasks such as file transfers and media streaming. However, it may also produce more noise and vibration due to its higher speed.
The WD Red Plus is designed for less demanding NAS environments and has a lower rotational speed and cache, which may result in slightly slower performance. However, it is quieter and cooler than the IronWolf Pro, making it a good option if noise is a concern.
Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on your specific needs and preferences. If speed and performance are more important to you, the IronWolf Pro may be the better option. If noise and heat are a concern, the WD Red Plus may be a better fit.
