Hi,
Will the Asustor AS-U2.5G enable me to connect my laptop to an Asustor Drivestor 2 (AS1102T), and then directly transfer data from the laptop to the NAS (and vice versa) without an internet connection.

Yes, you will need to set a manual IP address on each end and this will allow you to skip the switch part.
