Cache setup for TVS-874 w/ 2 NVME, primarily used for Plex

#1
Hello,

I recently bought a QNAP TVS-874 in the I7 variant. I would have bought the I9 but it was not available for 3 more months. So the question is, when I'm setting up the array, should I set it up with the 2 NVME in R/W caching, or should I do the Read Only caching and set up Plex on its own separate NVME for the Plex application? I ask because I want to ensure that there are no delays on clients when loading media content as I have thousands of shows and movie rips I've done from my Bluray and UHD collection.

Thanks,
James

If you create the very first volume on NVMe SSD, this will make Qnap store all apps and system files on this fast storage pool. This is much faster than caching. Normally caching is enabled to boost HDD RAID where SSD only volumes are too expensive. All multimedia files can be stored on HDDs. Plex will load from SSD and HDD will only serve as a source.

I hope this helps.
