Best NAS for 4K Plex Server

#1
I'm really torn. Was set on DS923+...then thoughts turned to QNAP-464...and now to Lockerstor 4 Gen2 (AS6704T).

I have two other Synology NAS units so I'm quite familiar...but always interested in choosing the right tool for the job.

This NAS will be specific and solely for video storage/playback (4K) as a Plex Media Server (lots of experience).

I like the idea of keeping it all in the family (Synology) but I want the best possible performance for the price...and security is a must...yes, I've been hit by ransomware so I know all about the importance of security.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, DS923+ could stream 4k locally or transcode up to 1080p videos in Plex. TS-464 can also do the same. But if using built-in video app, Qnap can transcode even 4k.
If you need a safe way to connect to a NAS remotely consider Tailscale VPN. Otherwise, Synology Quickconnect is an easy option.
