Purchasing Help - School Network Storage

#1
Hello,

I teach kids coding and we are running into issues with our game dev. students. Unity is quite performance heavy and already takes 3-5minutes to load on our systems. Their projects are all saved locally which has caused problems and lead me to looking for network storage with minimal added time.

Not sure what is overkill or what is recommended, around 5 users max and their projects are typically 5-15gb in size. Redundancy would be nice, and lower budget would be nice
Thanks!

I can see that probably the bottleneck is the time it takes to load the project into RAM. Using SATA SSD or NVME SSD would speed this process significantly. NAS with 10GbE connectivity would be helpful. This would mean DS1522+ or TS-473A / 673A models that allow this upgrade.
Or TV-472XT that has Thunderbolt and 10gbe connection preinstalled.
You can also use these NAS to create a virtual machine and run the software fro the NAS.

I hope this helps.
