synology nas expansion

hi
at the moment i have a synology ds2413plus 12 bay nas an old model and maybe be getting a ds 3615ex 12 bay nas is it possible to conect the synology dx1215 to either of these nas in the description of the expansion box it mentions the use of synology own hard drives with the dx1215 which i dont wont to use as i have wd reds,will i get the drive unsupported message even though im using the old synology nas running latest 7.1 dsm.
also could you please tell what the difference between the dx1215 and dx1215II and which one should i go for.

The old 3615xs do not have the same restrictions compared to the new XS series models.
DX1215II is made for Synology NAS models featuring II in their model number. But both of these expansions will fit with 3615xs. Hard drive compatibility is based on your main NAS model, not the expansion unit.
