Synology DS920+ memory upgrade?

#1
Hi Mr NAS Expert ;-),

I followed few articles and videos you made and I recently bought a DS 920+. Im quite happy but I wanted to be sure it is useful to extend the memory from 4Gb standard to 20Gb (adding a 16G ram). I read you mention it is better to have 2x RAM with the same size... Do I need to remove the 4Gb embeded and add 2x 8Gb or I can go ahead and buy a 16G one directly ?

Thanks a lot for your help and your valuable support with your site nascompares.com !

Cheers,

Max

If you go to your NAS performance reports, you will see how much RAM is used. If it needs more then 60% then you can consider adding more memory. Otherwise, adding RAM without a need would not increase NAS performance. It only helps so that OS does not need to allocate space for its temp files. You do not need to match the size of the RAM, only frequency. In fact, you can not remove the RAM, it is soldered on the board.I hope this helps.
