Upgrade from DS216Play?

#1
Hi,
I have just found your Blog/Webpage and it is great Smile

I have an old'ish DS216Play which I have to upgrade/expanse the disk capacity.
And while I were looking for new disks, I toke a look at what new Synology NAS there was.

In Short, I'm thinking about upgrading to DS720+ but it is from last year, and I don't want to buy a new NAS, just to find out that an upgraded version is released a month later.

I have seen your video on the difference between DS220+ and DS720+

I know that you don't know the future, but I would like to hear your opinion.

Extra info> I like Synology, the 2 bay series fit my needs, the price between 220+ and 720+ is ok for me, but only just.

Looking forward for your answer
Best Regards,
Poul

Yes, DS220+/720+ have recently released models. Plus series tend to be replaced every two years. So you should be OK for the next 1.5 years when you can call it the latest NAS. Otherwise, it would still perform very well. People tend to keep plus series for 5 years on average.Compared to your PLAY series NAS, this will be quite an improvement. You can keep your old NAS for remote backups. This would keep your data safe against disasters like flood/fire/theft.I hope this helps.
