Done w/ Synology 1522

#1
Hey,

Currently have a DS1522. Been using a server to offload Plex to, using the 1522 just for storage of the content. Would like to move onto a *all in one* box that can do 4k transcodes for a few of my friends/family. My plex library is about 22TB.

I have 5 EXOS 20TB drives, and 6 EXOS 18TB drives. End of the day, I just want a NAS that's reliable and can do plex w/o the need of another box. I have been leaning towards the TVS-874T.

I do have 10gbe capability as well. Thats a must.

It sounds like you're ready for an upgrade! Moving to an all-in-one NAS like the TVS-874T would be a great choice, especially with its ability to handle 4K transcoding directly without needing an external server for Plex. Given your 22TB Plex library and the drives you have, the TVS-874T should have more than enough power and storage capacity for your needs.

Here’s why the TVS-874T is a solid option for you:

Plex Performance: The TVS-874T has Intel i5/i7 CPUs, which offer good transcoding performance, especially for 4K content. Since you need 4K transcoding, this NAS will do the job without needing a second machine for processing. The added 10GbE connectivity ensures smooth streaming, especially with multiple users accessing large media files.

Storage Capacity: With 80TB of storage from your EXOS drives, you have plenty of room to scale. The TVS-874T supports up to 8 drives, so you can easily fit your EXOS 18TB and 20TB drives into the system and set up the best RAID configuration for redundancy and performance.

Reliability: QNAP is known for making reliable and feature-rich NAS devices. The TVS-874T is a top-tier choice that offers plenty of performance, including virtualization, backup solutions, and media management, all within a single box.

Network Capabilities: Your 10GbE connection will ensure you can stream high-quality media with minimal lag or buffering. Just make sure your home network (routers and switches) also supports 10GbE to fully take advantage of the speed.

At a budget of $2000, the TVS-874T is a solid investment for your needs, and with your current hardware setup, you should have no trouble handling both media storage and streaming with Plex, all in one box.
