Congratulations on your new Synology DS1522+! That’s a great choice, and it should serve you well for a media server setup with Plex.

Your current setup with the 2x 6TB Synology 5300 SATA HDDs and 32GB Sabrent DDR4 RAM will definitely get you started on the right foot. The DS1522+ has ample space with 5 bays, so you'll have room to grow. Plus, the added 32GB of RAM will help improve performance, especially if you plan to run more apps or virtual machines on the NAS. It’s a solid setup for storing media, running Plex, and having a reliable, expandable NAS system.

As for the R_volution NAS you saw on YouTube—this is likely a custom-built or DIY NAS. While DIY NAS builds can sometimes offer flexibility and cost savings, they typically require more effort to set up and maintain. On the other hand, the DS1522+ is plug-and-play with Synology's easy-to-use DSM software, which is great for home users who prefer a hassle-free experience. It’s also supported by Synology’s excellent customer service, which is a big plus.

For Plex specifically, the DS1522+ will work well for storing and streaming your media, though it may struggle with transcoding if you have multiple users streaming high-bitrate 4K content simultaneously. However, you could always offload heavy transcoding tasks to a dedicated Plex server (e.g., a PC or even a QNAP with integrated graphics).

Overall, I’d say your DS1522+ setup is a solid choice for home use. It provides reliability, expandability, and easy management, making it a great fit for your Plex server needs.
