2.5GB Switch and USB Adapter

#1
Hi guys,
Looking at purchasing an Synology DS1823xs+ and would like to upgrade from 1gb to 2.5gb 8 or 16 port unmanaged switch. maybe manged depending on price. We currently using computers with no ability to upgrade to the network cards, so USB adapters will be required.

Could I please get your current recommendations for suitable mid range switches and adapters? Amazon links would be nice so I can support you guys.

Many thanks

Upgrading to a 2.5GbE network is a great move, especially with the Synology DS1823xs+ (You should be able to get drivers from Github- double check this ) in your setup. Let’s get you sorted with some solid mid-range options for switches and USB adapters that will give you the boost in speed you're looking for.

Switch Recommendations:
For an 8 or 16-port switch, here are some reliable options:

Netgear GS110EMX (8-Port Managed Switch):

Why: This is a managed switch with 8 x 1GbE ports and 2 x 10GbE ports, which can also handle 2.5GbE devices. It’s a bit more versatile if you want the option for higher speeds later.

TP-Link TL-SG108-M2 (8-Port Unmanaged Switch):

Why: This is a straightforward and budget-friendly 8-port 2.5GbE switch. It’s unmanaged, so there’s no configuration needed—just plug and play.

QNAP QSW-1108-8T (8-Port Unmanaged Switch):

USB Adapter Recommendations:
Since your computers don’t have upgradeable network cards, here are some reliable 2.5GbE USB adapters:

UGREEN USB 3.0 to 2.5GbE Adapter:

Why: UGREEN offers reliable products at a reasonable price, and this adapter is no exception. It’s USB 3.0, which should provide more than enough bandwidth for 2.5GbE speeds.
