When it comes to choosing between the DS224+ and the TS-262 for a Plex server primarily focused on 4K transcoding, both options have their strengths. The DS224+ boasts a quad-core Intel Celeron J4125 processor, while the TS-262 features an Intel N4505 CPU. While both processors are capable, the DS224+ tends to have a slight edge in performance, especially for transcoding tasks.

However, it's essential to consider other factors as well. The QNAP software may offer specific features or compatibility that align better with your needs or preferences. Additionally, ensure that the NAS you choose has enough RAM to handle transcoding smoothly. Both models offer expandable RAM options, so you can upgrade if necessary.
