NAS OS

#1
Hello,

I have recently setup an Asustor 5404T NAS. This is my first NAS system. I installed 2 16TB HDD's for storage. I recently came across a video that recommended installing the NAS OS on a SSD for a quieter and faster system. The video recommended taking all of the mechanical drives out first to install the OS on the SSD.

My question is can I take out the 2 drives I have installed - which have the OS and my media installed on, install a SSD, and then install the OS on it and re-insert the HDD's? Will I have to format the drives all over again with the OS conflict?

Thanks!

Congratulations on setting up your Asustor 5404T NAS! Installing the NAS OS on an SSD can indeed improve performance and reduce noise.

Regarding your question, if you replace the HDDs with an SSD to install the OS and then re-insert the HDDs, you will likely need to initialize or format the HDDs again. This process will erase all data on the HDDs, so it's crucial to ensure that you have backups of your data before proceeding.
