#1
I have a Qnap TS873a. Can i connect pc direct to one port ie 192.168.1.5 and then confirgure the 2nd port as 192.168.0.5 which is on the home network that can be seen by all my devices , my pc has a 2.5gb and 1gb connection.
i did goto network setting on the TS873a and set the ip on 2nd port to 192.168.1.5 but it asked the the default gateway. i left this blank.

is this the correct way to connect up.

Yep, you're on the right track. Setting up different IPs on each port is a good way to connect to two separate LANs. Just make sure the IPs are on different subnets, like you did with 192.168.1.5 and 192.168.0.5. As for the default gateway, you generally leave it blank when you're dealing with a local network without internet access. If your second LAN has its own router, that's where you'd put the gateway.

Remember, these two LANs will be like separate islands unless you have a router connecting them. If you want them to play nice and talk to each other, you'll need a router to bridge the gap.
