Beginners Guide to 10GBE Upgrade

#1
You wrote in your guide that only the switch needs to be upgraded not the router. Don't you need the router also for local adress translation? And isn't all the home traffic run through the router? And wouldn't consequently keeping the old router create a bottleneck in the home lan?

In a scenario where both your PC and NAS are connected to a 10GBE switch via 10GBE ports, the router typically wouldn't be a direct factor in the speed between these two devices. The switch manages the local traffic between devices connected to it, and in this case, it facilitates the high-speed connection between your PC and NAS.

However, it's crucial to understand that the router still plays a role in broader network functionalities, especially if your network extends beyond the local environment. For internet access, data going outside your local network will pass through the router. If your internet speed is less than 10GBE, the router won't be a bottleneck for local transfers but might affect internet-related activities.
