Load Free NAS on DS920+

Was wondering if TRUENAS could be loaded on DS920+? With this functionality maybe a M.2 to SATA interfae could be added for adding more drives? Or if the existing pcie to m.2 could be changed to a pcie to four sata drive like the existing pcie to sata interface?

Or if there is a solution to use the esata port to generate sroage pools without the investment of purchaseing a DX525?

If you need more storage or want ZFS and full OS freedom, the DS920 Plus unfortunately is not the right platform to modify. Your only real options are to move to a system designed for expansion such as TrueNAS Mini, a QNAP with PCIe slots, or a DIY build that exposes full PCIe lanes for HBA cards.

If you need a NAS that lets you add drives properly or even run TrueNAS later, something like the QNAP TS 464 or TS h674 is a much better foundation because both expose standard hardware that accepts HBAs and NVMe adapters.
