NAS for Plex streaming and data backup (from Mac and PC)

#1
I currently have about 3 TB of storage. It's likely to increase, but not drastically and certainly not quickly.

I'd like a NAS that will last me years, and I feel like the current landscape is a bit outdated (Synology, QNAP, etc.), so I'm not sure if it's best to wait for new models, or do something else.

I'll primarily be using it to stream music and video to Plex, to run apps on Docker, and to do automated backups of my Mac and PC. For Plex, I would primarily be streaming a single source of HD or 4K video from my house. The NAS would be in the same room as the TV, so I'd want something that is not too noisy.

I was thinking of going with RAID 5 so there was a bit of redundancy in case of an error. Perhaps starting with 3 drives, and expanding to 4 later on. I'm also open to getting a 6-bay NAS, if that's a better option.

I'm fairly techy savvy. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Synology DS425 Plus
This is the simplest, quietest 4 bay option and a very nice upgrade path from external drives. Excellent for Plex direct play, Time Machine, Docker, and private cloud apps. It will easily last you years.

Synology DS1525 Plus
More powerful Ryzen CPU, more bays, better memory support, better for multiple Docker containers and heavy Plex libraries. If you want something that comfortably lasts a decade, this is the one.

QNAP TS464
Best value if you want strong hardware transcoding. Two NVMe slots, HDMI, snappy interface, great for Plex. Slightly louder than Synology but still quiet with good drives.

Ugreen NAS Options
Ugreen DXP4800 and DXP4800 Plus are worth considering if you want modern hardware and strong performance per euro. The OS is improving, though still not as polished as Synology. Great for Jellyfin, Docker, and file storage. For Plex, it works well for direct play but not ideal if you need heavy transcoding.
