The TVS 873 is unfortunately not upgradeable in the way you are hoping. The CPU on this model is AMD R Series RX 421BD, which is soldered to the motherboard, and the motherboard is a custom QNAP design.
There is no compatible drop in replacement board or socketed CPU swap available for this chassis.

So upgrading to an 8 core CPU is not possible inside this unit.

What you can upgrade
• RAM up to 64GB
• Add a 10GbE PCIe card
• Add NVMe cache or storage via QNAP QM2 card

But CPU and motherboard cannot be changed.

If your main goal is more CPU power for virtual machines, containers or Plex transcoding, the realistic path is to keep the TVS 873 as a storage box and build or buy a separate upgraded system.

If you want an 8 core NAS system in a similar price range, the best alternatives are:

• QNAP TS 873A used or renewed
Ryzen V1500B, much more powerful, supports GPU via PCIe.

• DIY TrueNAS or Unraid box
Mini ITX case with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G or Intel i5/i7 12th gen gives you far more power than any QNAP.

• Asustor Lockerstor 8R / 8N series
Much newer platform, better performance, and fully supported.
