UNAS Pro 8

#1
Hey, are you aware of any third-party apps that will do what SynologyDrive does -- sync UNAS Pro 8/4 with macOS, Windows, etc. computers? I basically want a self-hosted version of Dropbox/OneDrive like SynologyDrive offers.

Good question. Right now, UniFi’s UNAS Pro 8 and Pro 4 don’t have a direct equivalent to Synology Drive, since Drive is Synology’s own ecosystem app. But you can get the same “self-hosted Dropbox/OneDrive” experience with third-party tools:
• Nextcloud or ownCloud – both run as apps/containers on UNAS, and give you full desktop and mobile sync clients (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android). They’re the closest feature-wise to Synology Drive.
• Seafile – another strong Dropbox-style platform, lighter and faster than Nextcloud if you mainly care about file sync/sharing.
• Resilio Sync (SyncThing) – peer-to-peer sync that works well for 1:1 or family setups, though less feature-rich than full cloud platforms.

All of these can be installed in Docker or as packaged apps on the UniFi side, and once set up, you’ll have proper sync clients across devices.

So, yes, it’s doable – you just need to pick the right self-hosted sync platform. If you want the closest “like-for-like” with Synology Drive, Nextcloud is the go-to.
