NAS for Plex

#1
Currently using NUC as Plex server with USB attached portable SSD. Have movies and music on SSD. Many more BR and DVD movies to rip.

Looking at Asustor AS 6704T gen 2 for storage. Plex running to clients via wireless.

Should I keep NUC as Plex server and use NAS for storage , or use NAS as server?

Also been moving files from ripping PC via portable drive. Could I use the 2 Ethernet connectors to attach both NUC and ripping PC via portable to NAS for file transfers?m

Some people choose to install XPEnology to run Plex and manage storage, but I don’t recommend it due to potential stability and compatibility issues. Instead, I’d suggest going with Unraid or TrueNAS. Both are solid solutions that will give you great control over your storage and let you run Plex smoothly, all on the same system.

Regarding your question about the two Ethernet ports: yes, you can configure them to improve file transfers between your ripping PC, NUC, and NAS, either by link aggregation (if your switch supports it) or by using separate networks for faster simultaneous transfers.

Should Plex server remain on NUC or move to NAS?
