CWWK or Topton AMD-7940HS/8845HS 8-bay NAS

#1
Hi, I think I have finally settled on which motherboard I want to use for my new NAS/homelab.

I watched all the videos and reviews from nascompares for N100, N150, N305, N355, but AMD mobile beast captured my attention as there is much room for play.

But now I have another problem: which supplier should I choose? CWWK or Topton

From reviews, I think CWWK was on the top, but I'm not sure anymore

I can see there was a price jump of about 20% over last month for CWWK!!! Also, I can't find 7940HS on Aliexpress from them.

CWWK 8845HS (heatsink JONSBO) for£410.79
Topton 7940HS (heatsink JONSBO) for£349.19
Topton 8845HS (heatsink JONSBO) for£295.19

I'm happy to pay about 50£ more for 7940HS from Topton if it's a better choice, but I can't justify paying 100£ for CWWK 8845HS.

Can anyone tell me what s the difference is between those two brands and motherboards?
Is Topton worst than CWWK?

Price Consideration: As you noted, there’s a noticeable price difference. CWWK is offering the 8845HS for £100 more than Topton, and Topton’s 7940HS is only £50 more than their 8845HS. Since you’re comfortable paying a bit more for the 7940HS from Topton, it makes sense to focus on the key differences between these suppliers and boards.

Brand Reputation: Both CWWK and Topton are popular sellers for custom NAS and server solutions, with CWWK generally being seen as slightly higher-end in terms of build quality and support. Topton is known for being a bit more budget-friendly, but they still offer solid products. Some users report a better customer service experience with CWWK, but Topton is generally reliable as well. You may need to consider which seller is more likely to offer good support and warranty in case issues arise.

Performance: The actual performance difference between the 8845HS and 7940HS comes down to clock speed, power draw, and how you plan to use the NAS. The 7940HS is a newer and more powerful chip with higher boost frequencies, which may give you better performance for demanding tasks like virtualization, heavy file transfers, or gaming-related workloads. However, for most NAS tasks, the 8845HS will still be a solid choice and might be more than enough for your needs.

Motherboard Design and Features: Both brands likely use similar components for the actual motherboards, but there could be slight differences in terms of layout, BIOS/UEFI support, and expandability. CWWK might have a more polished design with better cooling options, but that doesn’t mean Topton is inferior. If cooling and long-term reliability are key factors for you, CWWK could be the better choice, especially considering the higher price.

Final Recommendation:
If you’re comfortable with Topton’s reputation and don't mind the potential trade-off in support or slightly less premium features, the 7940HS from Topton sounds like a great deal at £349.19. However, if you’re more concerned about build quality and customer service, and you’re okay with paying a bit more, CWWK could be the better choice, especially if the higher-end features matter to you. The price jump of 20% for CWWK recently is something to keep in mind, as it could make it harder to justify the added cost.

It sounds like you've done a lot of research on your NAS build! Both CWWK and Topton have their pros and cons, but generally, CWWK is known for slightly better build quality and support. However, the price difference is significant, and Topton's offerings, especially the 7940HS, seem like a great deal if you're looking for performance without breaking the bank. If you can get the 7940HS for £50 more, it might be worth it given its specs. Ultimately, it comes down to your budget and specific needs. Good luck with your build!
