I've never had a NAS before, but am using an Nvidia Shield with a 4TB external USB drive for Plex and some minor network storage. I'm looking for a more reliable solution and to run Servarr stack in docker. I'm a software engineer, so I don't necessarily need plug&play. I was looking at 4 bays, but those already get quite expensive with disks, so maybe I should go for 2 instead. Ideally I want to spend as little as possible. It's mostly just storage, Servarr can probably run as 1 container and I might try to run Immich. That's all. Plex server can still run from the shield, with storage on the NAS.

Thanks for the quick response. I’m leaning towards getting a NAS that’s a bit more flexible and can handle my Plex and Servarr stack. I’ve been looking at the DS224+ and DS423+, and they both seem like solid options. I like the idea of having something like the DS423+, which has 4 bays, in case I need more storage down the road. I could always start with 8TB and then expand later, and it gives me room for more containers if I want to run other things like Immich.
I also like that both the DS224+ and DS423+ come with DSM, so even though I’m techy, I won’t be wasting too much time setting things up. Plus, Synology's interface just works well, and it’s easy to scale if I need to in the future.
For hard drives, I was thinking about starting with WD Red or Seagate IronWolf in the 8TB range, then upgrade as I need more space. If you have any specific recommendations, let me know!
