It really depends on your needs and future plans. Here’s a quick breakdown:

DS224+ (£309) – Great for a small home NAS with 2 bays. Works well for basic Plex streaming, file storage, and backups, but has limited expansion. If you only need a simple setup and don’t plan on growing beyond 2 drives, this is the budget-friendly choice.

DS1522+ (£669) – A much more powerful 5-bay NAS with expandability (up to 15 drives), better performance, and support for a 10GbE upgrade. It’s better for long-term use, especially if you want to run multiple apps, VMs, or heavy Plex streaming.

Which One to Choose?
Go for DS224+ if you need a basic NAS for storage and light use.
Get DS1522+ if you want a future-proof setup with better performance, expansion, and longevity.
Should You Buy an Extended Warranty?
Synology already provides a 2-year warranty (DS224+) or 3 years (DS1522+).
If Amazon’s extended warranty is affordable and covers accidental damage, it might be worth it. Otherwise, Synology’s standard warranty is usually reliable.
