Currently have a qnap ts 869pro maxed with 3GB ram and 112 TB (8x14TB) in RAID6. According to qnap nas migration compatibility, I could take the 8 drives from 869pro and insert in a new 873A. I was hesitant since the 873A is a few years old and because 869pro does not have issues aside from slow bootup/shutdown. Was thinking about buying a TS873A + QSW-1105-5T combo for $1099 USD.
Thoughts on upgrading to 873A or waiting for a new 2025 refresh?

Your TS-869Pro has served you well, and I get why you’re considering the TS-873A—especially since it allows a direct migration of your RAID 6 array. The 873A would be a significant upgrade in terms of processing power and network capabilities, and adding the QSW-1105-5T switch would give you much faster network speeds (if your other devices support 2.5GbE).
That said, the 873A is a few years old now, and QNAP may refresh its lineup in 2025. If you’re not facing performance issues beyond the slow boot/shutdown times, waiting a bit longer might be worth it to see if a newer model is released with better specs, possibly with Ryzen 7000-series APUs or PCIe Gen 4 support.
However, if your NAS feels sluggish during daily use (not just boot/shutdown), or you really want 2.5GbE/10GbE now, the TS-873A is still a solid upgrade at $1,099, especially with direct migration compatibility. If you wait, you might see something newer, but it could also be more expensive.
