NAS upgrade

#1
Hi. I currently have a DS1019+ populated with 5x12tb drives. It is now at full capacity. I'd like to upgrade to another synology but need help! My current unit is 90% a plex 4k server. Is there an upgrade route you would recommend?
Is there a new synology nas due out that would give me more data storage and improved overall performance?
Thank you in advance for any response.

Thanks for reaching out! Given that your DS1019+ is running at full capacity and you’re using it primarily as a 4K Plex server, there are a few routes you could consider for an upgrade to keep pace with your storage and performance needs.

Recommended Upgrade:
Synology DS1621+ or DS1522+:

These models would be excellent choices for both performance and future scalability. The DS1621+ has a powerful quad-core processor, 4GB of ECC RAM (expandable), and six drive bays, which would give you more storage flexibility. The DS1522+ is another good option with five bays and more powerful hardware, making it ideal for Plex transcoding, especially with 4K content.
These units will provide better overall performance and future-proof your setup, especially if you plan to upgrade to larger drives or add more content over time.
Synology DS923+:

This is another great choice, with an AMD Ryzen processor, 4GB of RAM (expandable to 32GB), and four bays. If you don’t need as many bays right now, the DS923+ is a solid option for high performance, especially for Plex streaming and transcoding. It also supports NVMe cache slots, which could improve performance.
DS1821+:

If you want even more storage right out of the gate, the DS1821+ has eight bays and can provide substantial storage with excellent performance. This would give you ample space for expansion, and with the additional memory slots, you can scale RAM as needed for future-proofing.
New Models on the Horizon:
As for new models, Synology frequently updates their line-up, but there aren't any announcements specific to 2024 at the moment that would drastically improve upon what’s currently available for home use. However, they may release a new generation of NAS in the coming year, especially for improved CPU power or even better support for Plex. It’s worth keeping an eye on Synology’s announcements if you’re willing to wait.
