Hi guys,

I love your website and YouTube channel.

My Qnap TS-251 recently failed after 10 years of service. After watching nearly all your videos, I've narrowed my choices down to the Terramaster F4-424 Pro and the Asustor Lockerstor 4 Gen 2. I plan to use it as a home NAS for media storage, remote access, and Plex streaming. Since we don't have a 10Gb internet connection, that's not a priority for me.

The Terramaster boasts more RAM and DDR5, which caught my attention. However, your review mentioned potential concerns regarding the CPU's maximum support of 16GB RAM. I'm leaning towards the Terramaster Pro because I want a future-proof NAS that I can upgrade.

Do you guys have or plan a comparison between the two?

Many thanks

Thank you for your kind words about our website and YouTube channel! It’s fantastic to hear they’ve helped you narrow down your choices. Let’s dive into your question:

Terramaster F4-424 Pro
Pros:

DDR5 memory with 16GB upgrade potential for better future-proofing.
Strong focus on affordability while offering robust specs.
Ideal for media storage and Plex streaming.
Cons:

Potential concern regarding CPU limitations with RAM upgrades. While it supports 16GB, some scenarios might see diminishing returns beyond 8GB, depending on your use case.
Slightly less refined OS compared to competitors like Asustor’s ADM.
Asustor Lockerstor 4 Gen 2
Pros:

ADM OS is user-friendly, polished, and feature-rich, especially for remote access and multimedia tasks.
Up to 16GB DDR4 RAM, sufficient for most home and media tasks.
Superior app ecosystem compared to Terramaster.
Cons:

Slightly older DDR4 memory architecture compared to Terramaster’s DDR5.
Slightly higher price point for similar specs.
Which One Should You Choose?
Go with Terramaster F4-424 Pro if:

You prioritize DDR5 for better performance and future-proofing.
You’re okay with slightly less polished software for the benefit of upgraded hardware.
Go with Asustor Lockerstor 4 Gen 2 if:

You value a refined OS, ease of use, and a richer app ecosystem.
You prefer a more established and mature NAS platform.
