DS1621+ is right NAS for video editing ?

#1
I have about 6 TB data of personal data, mostly videos. Plus company data is less than 100GB.

I want to get DS1621+ with 3 * 4TB HDD, the main usage will be editing directly off the NAS locally using Final Cut PRO (Macbook PRO M1 Max 2021).

For your needs, the Synology DS1621+ is an excellent choice. With its AMD Ryzen V1500B quad-core processor and 4 GB of DDR4 ECC RAM (expandable up to 32 GB), it offers robust performance for video editing tasks. Your setup of 3x 4TB HDDs provides a solid 8TB of storage with options to expand, giving you a reliable base for handling your 6TB of personal video data and modest company data. With the DS1621+, you benefit from six bays, offering future expandability and an upgrade path for larger or more drives as your storage needs grow. Plus, the NVMe SSD cache capability significantly boosts read/write speeds, which is crucial when working with high-resolution video files directly off the NAS using Final Cut Pro on your MacBook Pro M1 Max. For even faster editing workflows, you might consider adding a 10GbE network card in the future, which the DS1621+ supports. This upgrade will allow for smoother handling of larger video files and more intensive editing projects. To explore more options, visit our NAS builder tool at https://nascompares.com/nas-builder/.
