DS718+ ram upgrade

#1
Hi, I want to max upgrade the RAM in my DS718+ running DSM 7.1-42661 Update, stock 2GB ram. I have seen reports of it unofficially supporting 2x8GB (16GB) crucial memory. I wish to run VM for home assistant (and future proof it).

Should I purchase the unofficial memory or would it be better to get Synology's memory (I don't mind if it is slightly more expensive but if synology is particular about the RAM it accepts would it be better to get 2x8GB RAM1600DDR3L (though, also not officially supported for DS718+).

Many thanks for your advice.

If budget is not a concern, it's recommended to go with Synology's official memory for your DS718+. Using official memory ensures compatibility and reduces the risk of any potential issues. However, if you're looking for a more cost-effective option, you can consider unofficial memory that has been reported to work with the DS718+. There are various third-party RAM options available, and you can refer to the list of compatible RAM on our website for guidance. https://nascompares.com/answer/synology-...tible-ram/
