Hi I’m new to my nas and feel like a noob, I have the 920+ and have 2 18tb hard drives to go in it if I use shr will I lose the capacity of one drive for redundancy or can I use the full storage of both drives and still have redundancy

No, SHR will use one drive for mirroring the other drive. This is how parity works. Having 3 drives would give you more storage space compared to only 2.
