Synology NAS USB Backup

Hi,
Hope you can help. I’m currently using hyper backup to backup my NAS to a 18TB drive, which I leave attached and it backs up every day, I don’t need to touch it, but I now need more than 18TB. I presume I can’t change the target drive midstream when full to continue, so will I need to create say a volume 2 with a separate backup, within the same storage pool? Will this affect the functions of say Plex, having data in different volumes?
I would appreciate any advise you could offer.

You're correct that if the user replaces the existing USB drive with a larger one, they will need to create a new backup task and perform a full backup again from scratch. This can take some time depending on the amount of data being backed up.

Alternatively, they can add an additional USB drive for backup, but this can become messy if they have to manage multiple backup tasks for different folders. In that case, connecting a USB dual or 4-bay box can be a better solution, as it provides more flexibility and allows for easier management of backups.

If the user has empty bays inside their NAS, they can create a separate pool and volume for backups. This can be a good option if they want to keep the backup data separate from their main storage pool. They can then use Hyper Backup to back up to this new volume, and the backup data will be stored in a separate location from their main data.

It's always a good idea to have multiple backups of important data, stored in different locations or on different types of media. This helps to minimize the risk of data loss in case of hardware failure, natural disaster, or other unforeseen events.
