Migration and Expansion

#2
Both Robbie & Ed have done several video 'how to' on migrating from one Synology to another
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2t-kKOqnUQ&t=154s

The principal is - if your new NAS has more capacity / functionality than you old it should work, but be sure to check the Synology migration check list first:
https://kb.synology.com/en-uk/DSM/tutori...anchor_id6

Once you're all migrated and it's running smoothly, simply go to your storage manager to create a new Storage Pool to add any disks you've put into those empty bays. You can of course also increase the size of your existing pool, to use all the space, or use the new disks to increase the size of your existing pool and raid (one disk at a time) , then add the old disks as a smaller secondary pool (at which point the NAS will wipe them for you, but as you already moved the data to the new larger pool it's exactly what you want to happen).

If you let SHR manage and expand your existing pool, just bear in mind you cannot shrink a storage pool later.

Hope this helps.
