Both Synology and Qnap are market leaders in NAS. Both have good and bad stories behind them. But regards to file compatibility, Synology supports more audio file formats without getting an extra driver or app. But if you use third-party apps like Plex, then both NAS will perform equally.Synology also has made it easier to backup your computers toa core level and their Drive app is really handy allowing you to keep some files on a server only but still show shortcuts on a computer.Dual bay multimedia friendly options would be DS218+/ DS718+ or on Qnap side TS-251D and TS-253D. Qnap would allow PCIe upgrades f you do decide to upgrade your 1GbE Ethernet.I hope this helps.
