I checked the DS2419+II compatibility situation again and you’re safe. This model is not part of the locked drive series, and Synology never retroactively applied the strict HDD whitelist to XS or Plus desktop units from this generation. So you can use third party HDDs and SSDs without restrictions.
Third party HDDs:
Works with Seagate IronWolf, IronWolf Pro, WD Red Plus, WD Red Pro, Toshiba NAS. You may get the usual “non-verified drive” warning, but on this model it is cosmetic and does not affect performance, RAID creation, or updates.
SSD add in card compatibility:
Both the M2D18 and M2D20 accept third party NVMe SSDs. There is no enforcement layer on these adapters. Popular working NVMe choices on this model include:
Samsung 970 EVO Plus
WD Black SN770 or SN850X
Crucial P3 Plus and P5 Plus
They all work for cache without issue.
One important note:
The DS2419+II only supports NVMe for caching, not storage pools. So the NVMe drives cannot be used as an SSD volume, only cache.
