Synology does not officially endorse third party RAM, but it works in practice and does not damage the system as long as you use standard DDR4 non ECC SODIMM at the correct voltage. Many users successfully run 16GB or even 20GB without issues. Your current 6GB limit is exactly why containers are struggling. If you choose a reputable brand and match the specifications, the DS220+ will recognise it and operate normally.
