32GB RAM for TS453D

#2
Thanks for the message and for following the channel. The TS453D can take sixteen gigabyte modules, but it is very picky about the type of DDR4 SODIMM used. The usual problem is exactly what you experienced. Many modern sixteen gigabyte sticks are dual rank or use high density chips, and the Celeron J4125 memory controller simply will not train them.

What you need is a single rank sixteen gigabyte DDR4 SODIMM, ideally two thousand six hundred sixty six or three thousand two hundred megahertz. The speed does not matter because the NAS will downclock it. What matters is that the module only has memory chips on one side and uses eight gigabit chips rather than newer sixteen gigabit ones.

Models that are known to work
• Crucial CT16G4SFD8266
• Kingston KVR26S19D8 slash sixteen
• Samsung M471A2K43CB1 CTD
• Mushkin MES3S16G26
Each of these is single rank and has been stable in the TS453D and TS453BE series.

I do not sell modules directly so I cannot ship you any, but if you search for those exact part numbers you should be able to find stock on Amazon or eBay. Avoid generic Crucial CT16G4SFRA or CT16G4SFS modules because they normally use high density layout and fail in QNAP.

Once installed, run a full memory test from the QNAP shell using memtest ninety eight to confirm stability.

If you want the easiest upgrade path with guaranteed compatibility, the Samsung module above is the one most owners have had success with.
