new 2 bay NAS

Thanks for getting in touch. Based on what you are doing, the QNAP TS-233 is an excellent and straightforward replacement for your old TS-231. It has a much faster processor, 2 GB of memory, and supports 4K media streaming, PC backups, and direct OneDrive synchronization with no issues. It also uses very little power and stays quiet, which makes it ideal for home use.

If you can find it in stock, the QNAP TS-262 is the next step up and worth considering. It has an Intel processor that supports Plex hardware transcoding, HDMI output, NVMe caching, and much better performance for future-proofing.

As for Asustor, models like the AS1102T or AS1104T will work fine for simple file storage, but QNAP’s software and cloud tools are better integrated for video streaming and backup.

In your case, the TS-233 will handle everything you need efficiently. If you want extra speed and a longer upgrade path, the TS-262 is the best value option to move up to.
