The right NAS

#2
For your Proxmox and Kubernetes setup, you’ll want a NAS that can handle virtualization backups, Plex storage, and general data management with good long-term support. With a 700 dollar budget (diskless), the Synology DS925+ or QNAP TS-464 are the best options right now.

The Synology DS925+ is the newer model replacing the DS923+. It offers excellent reliability, polished DSM software, easy NFS and iSCSI integration with Proxmox, and long-term update support. It’s ideal if you want a set-and-forget system for backups, personal data, and consistent Plex storage (though it lacks hardware transcoding).

The QNAP TS-464 is a better choice if Plex hardware transcoding matters. It includes two 2.5GbE ports, an Intel CPU that supports Quick Sync, and dual NVMe slots for caching or an SSD pool. It’s also strong for Docker and virtualization-related tasks, so it integrates smoothly with your existing cluster.

Your plan to use two 6TB WD Red Pro drives in RAID 1 is solid for redundancy and reliability, and both of these NAS models will handle that setup perfectly.

If your focus is stability and backup management, choose Synology DS925+. If you want more flexibility and Plex performance, go for QNAP TS-464.
