DIY NAS/MediaServer Suggestion

#2
Here’s a setup that would fit your budget and requirements well:

Case: Jonsbo N3 or Fractal Node 304 — both support 6–8 drives and compact motherboards while maintaining good cooling and low noise.

Motherboard/CPU: ASRock B650M PG Riptide WiFi with an AMD Ryzen 7 8700G (or 8600G if you want lower power). These APUs include powerful integrated RDNA3 graphics for 4K transcoding and have native PCIe Gen4 lanes for NVMe and expansion cards.

Memory: 32GB DDR5 (ECC optional) for running Docker, VMs, and Frigate comfortably.

Storage: Start with 4x NAS drives (for example, 4x 6TB or 8TB WD Red Plus) in RAID 5 or 6 for redundancy. Add a 1TB NVMe SSD for apps and cache.

PSU: 450–550W 80+ Gold SFX or ATX (Seasonic or Corsair).

Optional Add-ons:
• Coral TPU via PCIe or USB for Frigate NVR AI processing.
• Dual 2.5GbE or 10GbE NIC (Intel i225/i226) if you plan to expand your local network speeds.

This configuration gives you excellent idle efficiency (30–40W typical), smooth 4K streaming, and plenty of room for future drives and add-ons.

If you want something more compact and turn-key, you can also look at the AOOSTAR WTR Max or Minisforum N5 Pro NAS barebones, both of which support NVMe and SATA storage and run Unraid or TrueNAS easily.
