Which 5 bay NAS low power use and noise

#2
Thanks for your message and for following the channel. A 5-bay NAS is a really good fit for your use case, especially if you want low-noise, reliable storage with some redundancy for your video and photo work.

Right now the newest Synology option is the DS1525+, which is the current 5-bay “Plus” series model. It’s an update over the DS1522+ with stronger internal hardware and 2.5GbE networking by default. Either will meet your needs, but the DS1525+ is the one to look at if you want the latest generation.

The only caveat with Synology’s latest models is drive support. Synology are now leaning heavily toward their own branded drives in the 2025 generation. They are a little more expensive than Seagate IronWolf or WD Red Pro, but not by a huge margin. If full compatibility and worry-free updates are important to you, I’d suggest going with Synology’s own HAT drives. If you prefer flexibility, the DS1522+ (the older model) will happily take most third-party 16TB drives.

On the noise and power side, the DS1525+ is efficient and quiet compared to most other brands, so in a small studio environment it will be much less intrusive than your Terramaster experience.
