Canon MF643Cdw scanning to DS920+

At least initially, you can set this folder to allow guest access and no access restrictions. This makes it easier to test and confirm the printer can write to it. Once it’s working, you can always go back and tighten up permissions and assign it to a specific user later.

Make sure SMB is enabled on the NAS (Control Panel > File Services > SMB) and note down the NAS’s IP address, not its hostname. Always use the IP in the printer’s settings to avoid DNS issues.

On the Canon, enter the NAS’s IP as the host, and just put the folder name in the path field — don’t include the IP there. For example:
• Hostname: 172.x.x.x
• Folder: scanned

Also, it’s worth experimenting with the SMB version in the NAS settings. Some older printers like the MF643Cdw may still default to SMB1, so try enabling SMB1 temporarily if SMB2/3 doesn’t work, then you can test if it’s required and adjust accordingly.

Once you’ve got it working, you can then disable guest access and assign proper credentials and permissions to keep it secure going forward.

Thanks Ed!
This appears to work for me.
Did not need to downgrade the SMB1 or enable NTLMv1 for it to work as well.
Not sure if it is due to the firmware or some other setting on the printer that enabled SMB2 support.
