NAS motherboard and CPU Option Feedback: cm3588, Jetson AGX Xavier, cwwk 8, Gmtek g9

#2
Thanks for reaching out — sounds like you’ve got a solid plan brewing. Splitting your setup into two systems (one for NAS/Plex/Usenet/Home Assistant, and another for AI/LLM tasks) is definitely the right approach given the demands.

Here’s a quick take on your options:
• CM3588 NAS Kit – Great value for light NAS and Plex use, but not ideal for anything AI-heavy. Limited flexibility.
• Gmtek G9 – A strong all-rounder for the price. Good for Plex, backups, and Home Assistant. Soldered RAM is the only downside.
• CWWK 8 – If this is the N305 model, it’s probably your best x86 option in this range — plenty of PCIe lanes and solid performance.
• Jetson Xavier setups – Excellent for AI, but not great for storage. Networking and expansion can be a hassle unless you really need the NPU performance.

If you’re sticking to the $300 ballpark, I’d go:
• NAS/Plex: G9 or CWWK N305 board + PCIe SATA or M.2 expansion.
• AI/LLM: A used Xavier dev kit if you’re comfortable with JetPack/Linux, or a cheap Intel NUC with integrated graphics for more general use.
