OP here. I did purchase the OWC ThunderBay Flex 8 with a hardware raid installed... I was it's owner for about 3 hours.
The system would not recognize any of the new drives as being installed and the hardware raid... did not exist apparently.
Spent about an hour on the phone with technical support doing multiple trouble shooting steps to try and resolve the issue but even the softRaid program failed to recognize the Flex 8.
In the end they recommended against a repair and suggested a refund. Now waiting for that process to play through.
Positive is that their technical support and return process have been outstanding so far (waiting for them to process refund).
Since I need two more 18TB drives and no one has them in stock I have time to decide it I want to try again with OWC.
