Happy end: QNAP support took care of my ticket, and after getting a replacement SSD, they fixed everything. The NAS is up and running with the latest firmware now.
Seeing how complex it was to fix this RAID5 config (e.g., the new drive had to be repartitioned with a special legacy command so that its size matched the older drives, etc.), I'm thinking about migrating to QuTS hero. Maybe ZFS is more robust?
