Migrating Drives from DS1819+ to ??

#1
We own a Synology DS1819+ and use it as our main File Server... I want to add a new unit to replace it so I can deprecate this unit to use for backing up the computers on our LAN.

I was looking to add a rack-mounted unit as this would be our 3rd Synology box and space is getting slim in the rack. I was looking at the RS1221+ as a replacement but would be willing to spend a bit more for a newer unit, possibly to wait for the RS1224+.

The main issue is I'd like to migrate the disks (all Iron Wolf Pros ranging from 14TB to 22TB) from the DS1819+ to a new unit instead of migrating the data. It's not a dealbreaker if that makes more sense, but the time involved to transfer the data is a factor.

I am concerned with Synology's not policy to support only their own drives in certain models (not happy about this at all) that their might be some complications with this plan. Should I just go with a DS1821+. My sales rep at insight.com is getting push back from Synology to push their drives.
