Is the DS218+ a replacement for the DS-1816+?

#2
The Synology DS218+ is not a direct replacement for the DS1816+. The DS1816+ is an 8-bay NAS device, while the DS218+ is a 2-bay device. While both models can be used for basic file sharing, backup, and media streaming, the DS1816+ has significantly more storage capacity and processing power.

If you're looking to upgrade your NAS device, you may want to consider the Synology DS1821+, which is the successor to the DS1816+. The DS1821+ is an 8-bay device that features an AMD Ryzen processor and up to 32GB of DDR4 memory. It also supports up to two M.2 NVMe SSDs for caching, and can be upgraded with a 10GbE network card.

That being said, if you're happy with the performance of your DS1816+ and its expansion units, and they are meeting your storage needs, there may be no need to upgrade at this time.
