QNAP vs Synology

#2
Both QNAP and Synology have their own security features to protect against ransomware, but they have different approaches. But Synology is safer to.a core level. None of the apps have a ROOT/ADMIN access to the system that could cause NAS damage if there was a security hole in any 3rd party app.

Synology has a feature called "Active Backup for Business" which allows you to schedule automatic backups of your data, and you can also set up multiple versions of the files so that you can rollback to a previous version if needed. It also has a feature called "Snapshot Replication" which allows you to take instant snapshots of your data, and it can also replicate the snapshots to another Synology NAS or an external device. Additionally, Synology's operating system, DiskStation Manager (DSM) includes a feature called "Security Advisor" that scans your NAS for vulnerabilities and provides recommendations for hardening security.

QNAP, on the other hand, has a feature called "Hybrid Backup Sync" which allows you to schedule automatic backups of your data and also replicate them to other devices. It also has a feature called "Snapshot Replication" which allows you to take instant snapshots of your data, and it can also replicate the snapshots to another QNAP NAS or an external device. QNAP's operating system, QTS, includes a feature called "Security Counselor" that scans your NAS for vulnerabilities and provides recommendations for hardening security.

Both Synology and QNAP have their own security features that can help protect against ransomware, but it is important to note that no system is completely unbreakable. It is always recommended to have multiple layers of protection, such as keeping your software up to date, having a good antivirus, and keeping off-site backups of your data.
