DS 923+ as 4 bay NAS in 2025

#1
Hi,
Is it still recommendable to buy the DS923+ today considering an expected lifetime of 8-10 years with regular DSM updates? I have been using a DS413 for+10years now without any big issues but it’s time for an upgrade now….
Thanks

Hey, good question and great timing to ask it. The DS923+ is still a solid buy in late 2025 if your goal is reliability and long-term DSM support. Synology usually provides firmware updates for about 8 to 10 years from launch, so you can expect DSM updates until at least 2033. The AMD CPU inside is efficient, supports ECC memory, and is well suited for home storage, backups, and photo or video archiving.

At 600 € it’s a fair price for a new unit in Germany, especially if you already have drives ready. Just keep in mind it has no integrated graphics, so it’s not ideal for real-time Plex transcoding, but for direct-play streaming and backups it’s excellent. If your needs stay around 10 to 12 TB and you want a reliable, quiet NAS that will last a decade, the DS923+ is still one of the best choices today.
