identify iSCI drive

#1
My iSCI drive on my synology NAS (DS1019+) is no longer accessible / locatable on my iMac (Intel). The Kernsafe aSCSI initiator no longer seems to function - wont connect the drive. Possible arose folllowing either or both a DSM update or an apple o/s update.

where should I head to resolve this - new initiator ? which one works with Apple ?

thanks

Thanks for your message. It sounds like the recent DSM or macOS updates may have broken compatibility between KernSafe’s aSCSI initiator and your Synology iSCSI target. This has been a recurring issue with macOS updates over the past few years, especially with changes to system extensions and networking behaviour.

Here are a few things you can try:

1. Check the Synology DSM iSCSI Target Settings:
Log into DSM and make sure the iSCSI target and LUN are still enabled and mapped correctly. Go to Storage Manager > iSCSI and confirm the target is running and accessible from the NAS side.

2. Try GlobalSAN iSCSI Initiator for macOS:
Since KernSafe often lags in macOS support, I’d recommend trying the GlobalSAN iSCSI Initiator by SNS (Studio Network Solutions). It has been the most reliable option for Mac users for years and supports the latest macOS versions, both Intel and Apple Silicon:

There’s a free trial, and the license is affordable if it resolves your issue.

3. Remove/Reinstall Initiator Software:
Whether you stick with KernSafe or try GlobalSAN, it’s worth completely removing the current initiator, rebooting, and reinstalling clean — especially if it stopped working after a macOS update.

4. As a temporary workaround:
If you need access urgently and can’t get iSCSI working again immediately, consider mounting the shared folder over SMB or AFP just to get at the data (unless your use case strictly depends on block-level access).
