As there are few makers of HDDs and SSDs it seems unlikely that Synology make their own.So are they just rebranded ?Or their firmware adjusted to appear as if they are their own ?

Synology mainly uses Toshiba drives for their NAS units, and they've officially partnered with Toshiba for this. While there are some instances where Seagate drives are used, Toshiba is the primary manufacturer behind Synology's branded drives.
